Neo-Shamanic Shadow Works

How and What

Lisa Wilson and Nick Nicholson are certified Neo-Shamanic Breathwork Facilitators. They studied with Mary Margrave, a metaphysical diagnostician, teacher, and intuitive, and her Holotropic Breathwork* aficionado, James Frazier. James, an experiential psychotherapist, is from the first group of graduating Holotropic Breathwork facilitators, under Stanislav Grof.  James went on to create Neo-Shamanic Shadow Works, rebranding his version of the breathwork as Neo-Shamanic, enhancing Breathwork facilitator nuance with the sensibilities of Carl Jung and other depth psychologists (the study of unconscious processes and motives, i.e. “shadow work”).

The Neo-Shamanic Breathwork journey combines accelerated breathing with evocative music in a special container. With the eyes closed and lying on a mat, each person uses their breath, combined with specific music to enter a non-ordinary state of consciousness. This state activates the natural process of aligning with the individual’s psyche, and whatever the breather is needing to receive for their own healing experience. With the inner intelligence guiding the process, the quality and content brought forth is unique to each person and for that particular time and place. While recurring themes are common, no two sessions are ever alike.

Neo-Shamanic stresses in-person workshop containers which are held in sacred space, each Breather having a support Sitter, and includes emotional processing work for closure.

The term “Neo-Shamanic” recognizes that while the practice of Breathwork draws from a variety of wisdom traditions, the facilitators themselves do not refer to themselves as shamans.  Rather, we say we are calling in the energy of the archetypal magician, and holding space to reveal the divine, thereby respecting the powerful healing potential of each participant.

Neo-Shamanic Breathwork:

  • Is in the tradition and direct lineage of Holotropic Breathwork;
  • Is a safe and effective process that combines Deep Breathing, Evocative Music and Sacred Space
  • brings about expanded States of Awareness;
  • allows for releasing blocked emotions, complexes and even overly rigid belief systems…

…All in a safe and supportive environment.

*Holotropic Breathwork was developed by the renowned psychiatrist Dr. Stanislav Grof, arguably one of the most influential transpersonal psychology theorists in the world. From his initial group of students came James Frazier, direct lineage holder of Grof’s Holotropic Breathwork. James integrated a sacred container of holistic innerstandings and sensibilities from Jung and other human psyche pioneers, reframing the practice as Neo-Shamanic Breathwork.
